[edit] UI
Connecting a stereo is not very convenient: the volume control doesn't affect the headphones output. Should find out whether the HDMI ARC channel is better in that respect.
TED talks use the TV speakers even if something is in the headphones socket.
NetTV sometimes crashes
[edit] Streaming
UPnP/DLNA is pretty cool: streaming content from a local media server or the Internet
Video and audio don't always sync right. Can this be tweaked like in mplayer?
[edit] from the Internet
http://www.imediashare.tv is an android app that allows you to select various video's to play, such as TED talks. After starting the video, the app no longer needs to run.
Disadvantages: returning to the 'browsing' part of the app turns off the currently showing video. Doesn't seem to be needed: i can kill the app and start it again to browse while watching.
[edit] from a local server
[edit] mediatomb
pretty simple and good, and comes with Debian. Transcoding with vlc and mencoder seem possible, but take too much resources for my server. Web UI to select which directories to share.
seeking doesn't seem possible with mediatomb - while it works with TED talks.
[edit] ps3mediaserver
- http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/
- seeking works
- but exposes *all* of the disk unless otherwise configured
- GUI configuration, but can run headless
- Does not recognize my tv
- Slow
- Does not appear to detect changes in media directories (though this is reported to work for others)
[edit] coherence
Some framework. Gets picked up by ps3mediaserver:
Media renderer was not recognized. HTTP User agent: Twisted PageGetter
.. looks like it is using the Python Twisted framework.
